Six tiny Jewish congregations exist in northern Michigan and part of northern Ontario. All are volunteer-run, and some are among the oldest and smallest in the US and Canada. In 2012, to bring Jews together, the congregations created the L’Dor v’Dor Northern Michigan Consortium. Members congregate at semi-annual intergenerational and women/girls’ retreats and share resources for block booking events. Recently, a distance-learning religious school program for congregations with too few students or support to have their own was started. In many ways, this is a throwback to an earlier, and, perhaps, simpler Jewish life. We invite participants to hear about this today and pay a visit to the consortium thereafter.
